SPDC's troops force villagers to vote "Yes"

May 6, 2008 - An inside source has reported that the residents of villages in Karenni are being forced to vote early and vote yes in the referendum which is scheduled for May 10th. The Demawsoe Township officer travelled to Daw Phuu village tract on May 6 with an electoral team. They arrived at 8 a.m. and set up ballot boxes in two different locations. The village chief was instructed to tell all villagers over 18 that they must come and vote in favour of the draft constitutuion. more »

Cease-fire group chooses to vote “Yes”

Apr 30, 2008 - The leadership of the Karenni Nationalities Peoples' Liberation Front (KNPLF), has decided to vote in favour of the Constitution drafted by the SPDC. This was revealed this evening by a member of the KNPLF armed group following a meeting of the Central Committee earlier today. more »

The SPDC campaigns for a Yes vote in Shadaw

Apr 28, 2008 - According to a source in Shadaw, the SPDC has started an intensive pro-constitution campaign in the town and surrounding areas. Burmese military commander Major Htun Htun Win, from Shadaw-based LIB no. 426, has instructed his men to visit villages located in the northern part of Shadaw to collect the signatures of people who support the draft constitution. The referendum to ratify the Constitution will take place on May 10th. more »
