Burmese troops suffer major loss in clash with KA

Aug 10, 2009 - Karenni army officials say seven Burmese soldiers were killed, and four others wounded during a deadly hour-long gunfight with a column of Karenni forces on August 8.

Those who died included two commanders from LIB no. 576. The soldiers who were fatally wounded were named as Captain Thu Rein Win, Sergeant Htay Win, second corporal Maung Htway, privates Htun Htun, Kyaw Zin, Kyaw Min Lwin, and Ko Hlaing. The names of the injured were Major Kyaw Zaw, Lieutenant Ko Ko Lwin, Sergeant Kyi Win and Second Corporal Ne Lin Htun. “One of our Karenni soldiers was hurt on the arm, but the wound is not that serious," added the KA official.

According to the source, the gunfight broke out near Daw Mumar, Shadaw Township at 10 a.m. and the KA seized one MA1 and one MA2.
