Ceasefire soldiers defect to avoid becoming Border Guards
Jan 5, 2010 - Four gun men from a cease-fire armed group known as the Karenni National Democratic Army (KNDA) escaped from the KNDA headquarters on January 5th and joined hands with a front-line company of Karenni Army soldiers, an inside source has reported.
The gun men were Bae Reh, aged 19, Kyit Mon Htway, aged 20, Aung Thu Aye, aged 22, and Mone Dai, aged 22. They brought with them an AK-47, two M22s and 150 rounds of ammunition.
The source said that the men disagreed with the SPDC's Border Guard Force (BGF) and as their leaders are very likely to accept the Government's proposal and transform into a BGF within a few months, they decided to defect to the KA.
