Burmese privates killed in gunfight; villagers arrested
Jan 18, 2010 - Two Burmese privates were killed in a gunfight between the Burmese military LIB no. 516 and the Karenni Army which took place on January 15, 2010, an inside source reported early this week.
Burmese major Soe Min Latt from LIB no. 526 was commanding 20 armed men on patrol in Daw Tanaw and Daw Muleh, Shadaw Township, around 09:00 when there was a sudden confrontation with a unit of KA led by Captain Mae Reh. In the ensuring exchange of fire, two Burmese privates were gunned down by Karenni soldiers, according to the source.
In retaliation for this gunfight, Burmese troops entered Daw Muleh the following day and arrested 12 villagers.
The whereabouts of these villagers remains unknown; there has been no news of them since then.
